Each fall, third graders from Catholic schools across the Archdiocese gather at Calvary Mausoleum Chapel for a day-long exploration of Día de los Muertos. The day begins with a presentation in the historic chapel, where children learn about the cultural and spiritual roots of the celebration.
Afterward, they engage in traditional crafts — decorating sugar skulls, making paper marigolds, building picture frames, and constructing a small altar together as a class.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we adapted the program by developing a video series and downloadable PDF, so that schools, parishes, and families could continue the formation at home. We are pleased to share these resources here, freely available to all.
