The holiday season is a special time to remember and pray for loved ones who have gone before us. For many families, visiting the cemetery is an important tradition and a chance to pray, reflect, and remember.

As we approach the holidays, our Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries locations typically welcome more visitors, particularly around special days of remembrance and community celebrations. A little planning can help make your visit safer, more peaceful, and more meaningful.

Consider Visiting During Quieter Hours

If your schedule allows, consider visiting Monday through Friday between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., when our cemeteries generally experience less visitation. Choosing a weekday may offer a quieter environment for prayer and reflection while also helping you avoid heavier traffic.

Plan Ahead for Special Days

Visitors should anticipate increased visitation and traffic around several upcoming observances and celebrations:

  • Saturday, October 24: Día de los Muertos celebration at Calvary Cemetery
  • Monday, November 2: All Souls Day
  • Saturday, November 7: Día de los Muertos celebrations at San Fernando Mission Cemetery and Santa Clara Cemetery

If you plan to visit on or around these dates, please allow extra time to enter, travel through, and leave the cemetery.

Tips for a Safe and Satisfactory Visit

To help make your visit as pleasant as possible:

  • Plan ahead. Review cemetery hours and visitation information before leaving home.
  • Expect additional traffic on holidays, weekends, and special event days.
  • Drive slowly and carefully while on cemetery grounds and be especially mindful of pedestrians.
  • Be considerate of other families who may be visiting, praying, or attending services.
  • Review our flower and decoration policies before bringing flowers or other memorial items. Our website has current flower policies and visitation information.
  • Allow yourself time. Holiday visits can be especially meaningful, and planning ahead can help create a more peaceful experience.

A Time for Prayer and Remembrance

We understand that visiting the resting place of someone you love can carry special significance during the holidays. Whether you come to place flowers, offer a prayer, attend a special observance, or simply spend a few quiet moments remembering, we hope your time with us provides comfort and peace.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope your visit is safe, peaceful, and meaningful as you remember and pray for your loved ones.
