Cieneguitas Cemetery | Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries | Los Angeles

Cieneguitas Cemetery, a site of rest and remembrance, operated from 1875 to 1897. It became the final resting place for approximately 1,200 Catholics, including 20 Civil War veterans. In 1896, a significant transition occurred with the establishment of Calvary Cemetery on Hope Avenue in Santa Barbara, which succeeded Cieneguitas. This change in burial practices marked a new chapter in the area's history. Many remains from Cieneguitas were later transferred to Calvary.

Cieneguitas Cemetery, also known as La Patera Cemetery or the "Old Catholic Cemetery," is part of the rich history of the Goleta District. It is located on the 4500 block of Hollister Avenue in Goleta. It's important to note that the cemetery does not have an on-site office or available records. Visitation is limited, and there is no parking on-site.
